Kakua Bo Rangers Dashes FC Kallon Title Hopes.
3.25.2008
FREETOWN: NEW PEOPLE CORRESPONDENT, JUNIOR: FC Kallon hopes of retaining the Africell sponsored national premier league were dashed out by 10-men Bo Rangers after a goalless draw at the National Stadium on Sunday.
FC Kallon, with 48 points before the match, were searching for a win, that should have seen them over take arch-rivals Ports Authority in the top position. But a combative performance by Bo Rangers left them frustrated.
Bo Rangers' first choice goalkeeper, Ansu, was shown a red card mid way through the second half after he was caught handling the ball outside his 18-yard box. Referee, Sanusi Rashid, did not hesitate to apply the full force of the rule.
Both sides should have broken the dead lock in both halves but failed to do so with both sides wasting a couple of chances.
According to Bo Ranger’s coach, Ernest Howell, he was satisfied with the performance of the boys, adding that they showed so much of determination and grit in playing against one of the top sides in the premier league.
He said, “There were a lot of rumours about us not coming to honour our fixture, and other irrelevant statements, and because of these, the boys were ready to prove their critics wrong. This, they did.”
“My first encounter with FC Kallon was a defeat for me, but during this season I held them to a draw in both legs. My vision next season is to defeat them,” Coach Howell said, adding that his team will be a difficult nut to crack next season.
On the part of FC Kallon, it was a disappointing result for them as their only hope of retaining their title now lies on the outcome of the game between Ports Authority and Old Edwardians. FC Kallon must defeat Wusum Stars in their final match of the season to mathematically pip Ports to the premier league title.
