Is the President Serious About Battling Corruption?
4.08.2008
USA - Saidu Bangura: Immediately after taking the oath of office as president of our country, Mr. Ernest Koroma promised Sierra Leoneans and the whole world that his administration will militate against corruption. A few of us who know the history of the APC knew that he was not being up front with his people, but a huge number of people believed his words.
After making that promise, the president appointed a team of ministers and among them are people who have public records to clearly show that they have been properly involved in corrupt practices.
For example, he appointed Kemoh Sesay, who was involved in a passport racket, Alpha Kanu(aka THE MAFIA) who collected a huge amount of money from our people with the assurance that he will take them to the holy land of Mecca and converted that money into his personal use, without providing the service to our people. Recently, president Koroma also appointed his good friend, Alie Forna as head of the commission in-charge of reconstruction ( Alie was fired from "CARE" for an act of dishonesty). The president also, appointed Alpha Kohlifa Koroma as chief immigation officer ( he was fired from the police force by the same APC for his involvement in a fraud.
It is very funny to hear the president claiming to run a corrupt free government, when he knows very well that his team has a lot of corrupt people.
President Koroma must be ready to translate his words into actions, we are tried to hearing empty talk, we now want to see good actions.
The president has woefully failed so far to justify the confidence reposed on him.
With respect, I appeal to president Koroma to step up to the plate and be very serious about fighting corruption within his government officials,
I know that it is very difficult to divorce the APC and CORRUPTION because they have been bed-fellows for a long time, but the president must live up to his words. Everybody in the president's team must be ready to put the interest of the country above all other interests.
