Evidence Shows that APC is Doing Exactly What Caused the Ten Year Civil War.

FREETOWN: NEW PEOPLE CORRESPONDENT: Experts on conflict resolution and causes of war have said many times that privation, marginalization and maldistribution of power and natural resources are among the most potent factors that lead to civil wars. It seems as if Ernest Koroma’s APC government has willfully ignored those warnings from experts and has done exactly the opposite. Ernest Koroma promised to unite the country but he has only succeeded in dividing the country more than ever before. He has systematically marginalized 53% of the country in favor of the minority. He gave 95% of cabinet positions to people who make up 47% of the population and contribute a paltry 15% to export earnings. Areas of the country responsible for 85% of the country’s GDP export earnings are represented by a miserable 5% in the government. It is imperative that this blatant anomaly of redistribution of governance be addressed immediately as it does not auger well for the country. Please look at the graphical representation of the way Ernest Koroma has marginalized 53% of the population, a population that contributes the most to the country’s economic well being.
THE COUNTRY REPORT ON SIERRA LEONE RELEASED BY THE UN SPONSORED SEVENTH AFRICAN GOVERNANCE FORUM IN OUAGADOUGOU FROM 24TH THROUGH 26TH OCTOBER 2007 SAYS:
“…the recent general presidential and parliamentary elections reveal a sharp ethnoregional divide along south-east and north-western lines. This divide which has serious implications for national cohesion and development is now seen as the new challenge for the new government”.
