APC Secretariat Snubs SLPP Defector District Chairman for Symbol.

4.14.2008

Victor FohFREETOWN: JUNIOR: The Kono district council chairman has been snubbed whose bold-faced public announcement that he had defected from the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) for the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) has been humiliated. During his official declaration to the council of his intention to declare himself a candidate for the forthcoming local council election, Sahr Tamba (formerly of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party) had called on residents of the district to give him a second term in office. This time though, he wanted to be elected as an All Peoples Congress (APC) councillor rather than as an SLPP councillor.

The APC secretariat has failed to grant him the opportunity to contest for the council under the banner of the APC. Because of his failure to secure an APC symbol, Samuel James who had declared to contest in the local council election under the banner of the APC, has now declared himself as an independent.

Two other councilors Steven Ansu and Tamba Kugbana also formerly of the SLPP have also defected to the APC.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Movement for democratic Change Kono district chairman has been described by some PMDC’s supporter as not focused leader
Felix Fofoe is alleged to have always attending SLPP meetings in preparation for the forthcoming local council election.
Some of the SLPP supporters are calling on Fofoe to either declare for the SLPP or remain PMDC because they do not want a leader who sits on the fence.
