OPINION: Dr. Mariatu Sesay Lambasts APC Assistant Secretary General.
4.27.2008
WASHINGTON, D.C, USA: DR. MARIATU SESAY: Does this Man Really Speak On Behalf of the APC?
The New People Editorial Staff requested Mr. Abdul B. Kamara to re-edit his original piece to comply with our editorial guidelines on obscenities and other issues. When re-submits a clean version, The New People will consider the opinion for publication. - Editorial Team
When a political party votes in members of their executive, they normally choose sober minded people who will be able to lead the existing flock and at the same time add even more followers to the party’s ideals.
I have watched with surprise, disappointment and grave concern as the supposed USA Assistant Secretary General of the ruling All People’s Congress of Sierra Leone stoop to the use of gutter language to make his points over the world wide web.
Is Mr. Abdul Bero Kamara, the best the APC can come up with? If so, I foresee the APC that came to power on a wave of popularity, go downwards very fast. This man has disgraced APC; he has disgraced women and he has disgraced the country and people of Sierra Leone over the World Wide Web.
Mr. Bero Kamara, like someone pointed out on the Awareness Times forum, is bringing his party into total disrepute with the writing style he has chosen. Mr. Bero Kamara should know that he no longer writes for Mr. Abdul Bero Kamara but for every single member of the All People’s Congress in America.
His gutter language piece as published by Cocorioko is made even worse when he proceeds to describe himself not as plain Mr. Abdul Bero Kamara but adds the definition of APC Assistant Secretary General to the description of the author of the piece.
For a political party that has always been plagued with allegations that it is full of lawless and ill brought up thugs, Mr. Abdul Bero Kamara should be careful how he uses his pen especially in a matter that has little to do with the APC and everything to do with Gender sensitivity.
By unleashing the unfortunate kind of attacks on the female Awareness Times Publisher, Sylvia Blyden, Mr. Abdul Bero Kamara has joined the ranks of the APC supporters who do more harm than good to their political party.
Mr. Abdul Bero Kamara should be immediately upbraided and chastised by the senior executive members of the All People’s Congress who should distance themselves from his publication on Cocorioko.
A Party that is looking for followers does not encourage the kind of language used by Mr. Abdul Bero Kamara on female citizens no matter what that female citizen’s political preference.
If Abdul Bero Kamara is writing on behalf of the All People’s Congress, he needs to pick up a book or two from the Library on how a politician writes and behaves. In this particular matter he waded into, it had nothing to do with the APC and Kamara has just dragged the APC’s name through the mud for nothing. It also had nothing to do with Abdul Bero Kamara as an individual and by splashing the gutter language around in a matter not concerning him; it will appear he brought shame to the women in his life and also to all the women of Sierra Leone.
You are an elected official of the country’s majority ruling political party. This means that non-Sierra Leoneans will now look on anything you do as reflective of the majority of Sierra Leone men. You have made Sierra Leone men in high places look like they have little regard for the sanctity of womanhood.
No woman, Sierra Leonean or otherwise, deserves to be lashed the way you have lashed the female Publisher. I am particularly surprised because you attacked the messenger and not the message. You try to intimidate the Publisher for merely publishing the 2003 Speech of the 2007 elected President? Is that a reason to go so low?
Where in Awareness Times did she publish anything against Yaya Fanusie? I have not seen it and I read this newspaper daily. It is the best newspaper on the web as far as objectivity and presentation goes.
Abdul Bero Kamara, not only have you brought shame to the women of Sierra Leone but you have brought shame to the All People’s Congress, a party which does not need such negative reflections at this point in time.
Abdul Bero Kamara, you owe your APC Party and all of us who read your very vulgar piece, a very sincere apology. I hope the elders in your party can advise you quietly. You have brought nothing but shame to Sierra Leone by the vulgar, coarse and crude publication that Cocorioko published for you in the name of the All People’s Congress.
Thank you for your attention this far.
Dr. Mariatu Sesay
Washington DC, USA."
