EDITORIAL: NOSLINA Goes Partisan and Loses Credibility as Board Prevents SLPP Supporters from Serving on the NOSLINA Executive.

5.06.2008

Dr. Cecil BlakeNEW PEOPLE INVESTIGATIVE TEAM, USA: The National Organization of Sierra Leoneans in North America (NOSLINA) has finally shown its true colors that its leadership is merely a front organization for APC. A couple of weeks ago, we exposed the biased way their awards were given. It has become clear that NOSLINA has been trying all along to appease APC with the possible hope of some of the executive members getting positions in the already failing APC government. In their verbose attempt to do damage control through a sorry excuse for a press release, NOSLINA executive members did not only raise many more questions, but they actually vindicated New People. NOSLINA admitted that they continued to call elections for the awards until they had the desired outcome, which is, giving two APC operatives, Yaya Fanusi and the so called Rev Kabs-Kanu awards. It should be noted that NOSLINA has never done that and this was done specifically to appease APC.

Like the proverbial Southern USA racist, NOSLINA started counting the number of whites they have on their board. It turns out they have a huge number of one white woman on their board. It would interest the reading public to know that this single white woman actually abstained from all voting after it became clear that NOSLINA was set to manipulate the results of voting. In addition, NOSLINA’s press release touted giving a FORMER SLPP stalwart an award. This is one of the most egregiously dishonest parts of the release. The so called SLPP stalwart the late Mr. Sam Tucker was only given the award when he quit SLPP for PMDC. This further lends credence to the suspicion that NOSLINA was and is hell bent on appeasing anything that is against SLPP.

The make up of NOSLINA spells APC. In fact, with the exception of may be Aiah Fanday, almost every board member of NOSLINA is an APC operative. Let’s start with Don Taylor. Don Taylor is an avowed APC operative whose father was an adviser to the infamous S. I. Koroma, former APC Vice President of Sierra Leone. It should be noted that Don Taylor’s father advised S. I. Koroma at the time when the latter expressed the desire to eliminate one of the largest ethnic groups-the Mendes, in Sierra Leone. Furthermore, it has been revealed to New People that Don Taylor is seriously lobbying for the position of Director of Mass Media in Sierra Leone.

Cecil Blake on the other hand is a long time APC supporter since the time of S. I. Koroma. He, like Yaya Fanusi, is an original member of the infamous APC youth league who have a history of violence in Sierra Leone. During the infamous overthrow of the democratically elected government of Sierra Leone, all non-partisan organizations save NOSLINA condemned the AFRC. It has been revealed to New People that Cecil Blake, then Executive Director of NOSLINA, refused to neither condemn nor make a statement on the overthrow of democracy in Sierra Leone. This led to many people abandoning NOSLINA to form Coalition for the Restoration of Democracy in Sierra Leone (CORDISAL). To add insult to injury during the Lome Peace talks, Sierra Leoneans were shocked to see Cecil Blake’s coziness with the dreaded Foday Sankoh especially after he and others had a closed door meeting with him. It has become clear that Cecil Blake and NOSLINA, like the present APC are very friendly with those who destroyed the country.

Suna Nallo on the other hand seems to be crying for attention from APC. She brags around that she talks to Ernest Bai Koroma every week. As a matter of fact, Suna Nallo is on record blaming Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora for the high cost of rice in Sierra Leone. Suna Nallo has also stated elsewhere that Sierra Leone is more united and the cabinet of Ernest Bai Koroma is representative of the country. Sources close to Suna Nallo allege that she stays loyal to APC because Siaka Stevens spared her father in the diplomatic service while other Southeasterners were being fired. New People investigative team has also found out that Suna Nallo with her friend Arabella Foray were heavily involved in raising funds for the APC campaign. As a matter of fact, after the elections, the NOSLINA board secretly wrote a letter to Ernest Bai Koroma congratulating him. The twist here is that Sheku Kallon, who supports SLPP and was the Executive Director of NOSLINA, was not allowed to sign the letter. Cecil Blake’s reason was that Sheku Kallon supports SLPP. The letter was signed by Suna Nallo and the other APC stalwarts like William Fitzjohn, Cecil Blake, Mr Jalloh and Don Taylor to name a few.

To crown its partisanship, NOSLINA, at the advice APC stalwarts removed Sheku Kallon as executive director for the sole reason that he opposed the bastardization of their awards and that he is an SLPP supporter. Sheku Kallon is not the only SLPP supporter that NOSLINA got rid of. New People has learned that Dr Marda Mustapha who is a vocal SLPP supporter has been prevented by the NOSLINA Board from serving after paying the $100 registration for the sole reason that he is an SLPP supporter. Sources close to Dr Mustapha reveal that no less a person than Suna Nallo, Sheku Kallon and Aiah Fanday either spoke to him or sent him an email encouraging him to serve and/or be a member of NOSLINA. However, NOSLINA sources alleged that when William FItzjohn and Cecil Blake heard about that, they opposed Dr Mustapha’s inclusion because of his support for SLPP. The ridiculous thing William Fitzjohn did was to call Sheku Kallon to tell him that Dr Mustapha was not appointed to the board because he was absent and they did not know him. This was a blatant lie as William Fitzjohn knows Dr Mustapha very well, so does Suna Nallo, Sheku Kallon, Cecil Blake and Aiah Fanday who actually played soccer with Dr Mustapha when they were teenagers. On the issue of Dr Mustapha being absent, most board members had been appointed in absentia as long as they paid their $100 registration fee. It is clear that NOSLINA has become an exclusive APC club. The New People urges the IRS to reconsider their 501c(3) status as they now seem to be fully promoting the political agenda of APC.
