The Kick of a Dying Horse

Written by Harold Saffa

President Ernest Bai Koroma has given a completely new meaning to the phrases “South-South cooperation”, or those of “Regional/Sub regional cooperation.” In term of a broad and established understanding of both phrases, it is usually taken to mean the exchange of expertise between governments and individuals in developing countries.

For the past three or more weeks, our political discourse has been overshadowed by one evil: political violence. Understandably, most well-meaning Sierra Leoneans have been appalled by the re-surfacing of the spate of political violence as we continue to live with the scars of our agonising war even ten years on.

The “Monkey Master’s” Story

Written by Kalilu Totangi

IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE LIBERIA ELECTIONS, THE APC FOLKS HAVE BORROWED THE ELLEN JIHNSON-SIRLEAF SLOGAN "MONKEY DAE WOKE, LEH BABU WAIT FORS" SLOGAN. Offering their last prayers!

Written by Shekulexmond Koroma

Why have you failed to heed to the oath you took when the presidency was awarded to you President Koroma? Since you came to power your government has embarked on using browbeat tactics and actions to scare your opposition and deny them justice by continually twirling the true story to blindfold the international community and disguise your innately deceptive character.

Freetown, February 5, 2012: It has come to the attention of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) that the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) has embarked on transporting ex-combatants from different parts of the country to register in towns in the South and the Eastern Provinces, the strongholds of the Opposition SLPP. Ex-combatants armed with weapons and other offensive instruments have already been ferried to Moyamba, Bo, Kenema, Pujehun, Kailahun and Zimmi.

Saturday, 4th February 2012: Sierra Leone continues to be a symbol of success, hope and promise for the United Nations (UN) in the execution of its mandate all over the world. It has not only played a vital role in ending the war, it has been the main pillar of strength in the country’s recovery process. The glorious performance of the UN has been possible, partly as a result of the quality of the leadership that it has assigned to Sierra Leone since its engagement in Sierra Leone during the war.

A spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, announced in a statement released Thursday, that Mr. Michael von der Schulenburg - the Executive Representative of the UN Secretary-General and head of its mission in Sierra Leone, will depart Freetown for New York on Monday, February 6, 2012.

As a prelude to the presidential election in Sierra Leone, scheduled in November, a matter relating to money sent to Conakry by President Ernest Bai Koromah, is being divisive within the Sierra Leone community in Guinea, Conakryinfos has learned from sources close to this community.
