Coach Kanu to meets top African coaches
Leone Stars coach, Ahmed Kanu will joined other top African coaches on April 21 in Cairo, Egypt for a two day workshop organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
According to the African football governing body, the workshop is a part of the association’s effort to develop the game in the continent. The workshop will be held for head coaches of the 53-affiliated national associations. READ MORE

FREETOWN: SAHR MORRIS: Minister of Education Youths and Sports, Dr. Minkailu Bah Tuesday said his government will reinstitute the National Sports Council in May this year.
Dr. Bah, who expressed the government’s disappointment on the current state of sport in the country, particularly football said the All People’s Congress government is going to man the affairs of the sports in the country to ensure development.
“I have come to this ministry to make a difference, and I have signed a performance contract with the President, and I will not allow anybody to mislead me,” Dr. Bah stated.
The minister also expressed his government’s willingness to promote sports in the country. READ MORE

FREETOWN: NEW PEOPLE CORRESPONDENT, JUNIOR: The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has banned the Sierra Leone National stadium from hosting all of its FIFA organised matches because it has failed to meet meet FIFA safety standards.
According to reports from the football world governing body, the Sierra Leone national stadium did not meets the international standard of facilities and the state of the pitch was cited as particularly sub-standard. READ MORE

FREETOWN: NEW PEOPLE CORRESPONDENT, JUNIOR: The Sierra Leone national Cricket team is all set for the second edition of the North- West African Cricket Championship (NWACC) billed for Nigeria in April 2008.
Following several trials at the Kingtom Ovals, the national team coach, Cyril Panda has selected 13-players who will represent the country in the competition. According to Coach Panda, his boys are prepared for the tournament and he believes that his team may be considered favourites to bring the trophy home to Sierra Leone. READ MORE

FREETOWN: NEW PEOPLE CORRESPONDENT, JUNIOR: FC Kallon hopes of retaining the Africell sponsored national premier league were dashed out by 10-men Bo Rangers after a goalless draw at the National Stadium on Sunday.
FC Kallon, with 48 points before the match, were searching for a win, that should have seen them over take arch-rivals Ports Authority in the top position. But a combative performance by Bo Rangers left them frustrated. READ MORE

A CLUB owned by Sierra Leone star Mohamed Kallon is set to cause a
stir in the African Champions League this weekend.
FC Kallon shocked fellow debutants Ocean Boys of Nigeria by forcing a
0-0 draw last month in the first leg of a preliminary round qualifier
for the US$3,5 million competition.
And coach Abu Sankoh has warned the Nigerians to expect hell in the
return match as he eyes a second round showdown with star-studded Cote
d'Ivoire outfit Asec Abidjan.
"We went to Nigeria for a draw and got it. I don't believe Ocean Boys
can surprise us at home. As far as I am concerned, they are going to
see hell in Freetown," boasted Sankoh.
"The Nigerians are wasting their time coming. We are unbeaten in more
than 30 games and my confidence is increased by the fact that we held
them despite not performing at our best."
Chairman Nathaniel Ngor-Silva has threatened to quit if his club is
dumped out of the Champions League while the deputy governor in the
state where Ocean Boys are based warned the coach to work harder and
ensure success.
Ocean Boys are not the only favourites in trouble with former title
holders Asante Kotoko of Ghana and Canon Yaounde of Cameroon clinging
to 1-0 leads ahead of away matches.
Etoile of Congo demonstrated their African ambitions by hiring
Romanian coach Nicolae Bourcea and travelling to west Africa for
warm-up matches before confronting Canon.
And after restricted the three-time winners to a first-half goal by
Jean Ngambe, the Brazzaville-based club will hope to heighten the
football euphoria in a country celebrating winning the African youth
championship last weekend.
The other five former champions in action, Esperance of Tunisia, JS
Kabylie of Algeria, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, Tout Puissant Mazembe
of Democratic Republic of Congo and Zamalek of Egypt, are more
comfortably placed.
Esperance and Wydad hold four-goal advantages over minnows Renaissance
of Chad and Mauritel of Mauritania while Mazembe and Zamalek are three
goals ahead of Police of Botswana and Vital'O of Burundi respectively.
Defending champions Al-Ahly of Egypt have a bye into the second round
during March, when they launch their challenge for a record third
consecutive title with a tie against either Pamplemousses SC of
Mauritius or Highlanders of Zimbabwe. — AFP

NEW PEOPLE TEAM - Leone Stars Captain, Mohamed Kallon, has offically put pen to paper and signed for Greek table-toppers and UEFA Cup contenders AEK Athens.
After passing a medical today, he noted that he was excited about the opportunity of becoming part ofthe Athenian side, and promised that he will contribute his best to the team's effort at achieving success both domestically and in Europe.
Meanwhile, former Feyenoord and Doldrecht attacking midfielder, Alhaji Sesay, has signed for Senad Creso's Bahraini side, Najma. Alhaji Sesay's professional career started when he played outstanding group stage games for Sierra Leone's U-17 side in 1997.
